Karina McLamb joined Coastal Primary Care in December 2016 from Black River Health Services in Burgaw, NC. She grew up in Wilmington, NC, and later attended Duke University for both her bachelor's degree in Public Policy and her master's degree in Health Sciences and Physician Assistant studies. Karina has worked on both the business and clinical sides of healthcare. She began her career in Washington DC with the Advisory Board Company, where she worked on a team that implemented and managed an infection control surveillance system for hospitals and health systems. She later returned to Wilmington and worked as a nursing assistant and Spanish translator at Knox Clinic Pediatrics and a medical assistant at Wilmington Health Access for Teens. Karina joined Black River Health Services in September 2013 after graduation from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program, and practiced there through November 2016. She is excited to join the Coastal Primary Care team and practice in her hometown. She enjoys all aspects of primary care, with special interests in chronic disease prevention and women's health. Karina is a Certified DOT Medical Examiner and a Preceptor for the Duke University Physician Assistant Program.
Dr. Joachim has been in private practice since 1989, following completion of his Internal Medical Residency at New York University Medical Center in 1987 and his Clinical Nutrition Fellowship at The University of California - Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Recognized from 1987-1989 as a National Institutes of Health Post-Doctoral Scholar, Dr. Joachim started Coastal Primary Care in 1998 in response to a strong community need for an Internal Medicine - Primary Care practice that embraces a more personal, clinical setting where patient care is provided in a timelier fashion. While working as a Primary Care Internist at Coastal Primary Care, Dr. Joachim is also part of UNCW's Athletics Medical team since 1997 as a Team Physician. He is also the former Team Physician for the Wilmington Hammerheads Soccer Team from 1999-2008. Dr. Joachim is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine with the UNC School of Medicine and actively teaches clinical medicine to both medical students and medical residents. He
formerly served as the Tactical Physician for the
Wilmington Police Department's SWAT Team.
